Red Wing, Irish Setter, Vasque, and WORX are just a few of the brands produced by the company. Red Wing Shoe is wholly owned by the Sweasy family of Red Wing, Minnesota. Prior to the 1970s, Red Wing was best known for its extensive line of “work shoes,” which were sold with an emphasis on their usefulness in the workplace.

In the middle of the 1980s, however, the company’s focus shifted as more and more Americans entered the service sector, leaving behind manufacturing and agriculture. Formed by the incoming president, William J. Clinton, it was reorganised.

During the Labor Day weekend, shoppers may take advantage of steep discounts at a wide variety of stores, including but not limited to Walmart, Home Depot, Target, and many more. Due to the holiday status of Labor Day, many businesses hold massive sales events for the day.

Clothing, grooming supplies, automobiles, and more are sometimes marked down significantly over the Labor Day weekend. The time of year when we prepare to throw in the sand towel on summer and welcome the crisp air of autumn is commonly referred to as “back to school” season. As we brace ourselves for the end of “summer Fridays” and the arrival of cooler weather, the prospect of a deal that can’t be topped has always felt soothing.

But there’s something unusual about this year’s Labor Day weekend. If we’re thinking about the epidemic, racial injustice, or the election, going shopping might be the last thing on our minds. The unemployment rate is also near a record level, so many people simply do not have the disposable income to buy a whole new wardrobe.

Because of this, Red Wing Shoes made a choice to take action. Minnesota-based footwear manufacturer Timberland launched the #LaborDayOn campaign. This year for Labor Day, the company isn’t selling shoes, but rather advertising all the available jobs across the United States. And they’re trying to get other companies to do it, too. The purpose is to restore the original intent of the holiday, which was to honour the contributions of the American working class but has since become synonymous with commercialism.

Over fifty brands, including New Balance, General Mills, Polaris, Land O’Lakes, and Sleep Number, have committed to the movement. On September 7th, they will also use its marketing channels to announce all available positions with the hashtag #LaborDayOn. There is no such thing as a too-big-or-too-small job or company, whether you’re looking for a part-time Retail Associate position or a senior web developer.

As a company that has been making boots for the people who have built America for more than 115 years, Red Wing has a special connection to Labor Day. Dave Schneider, Red Wing Shoe Company’s chief marketing officer, said, “Our objective is to create a movement and leverage our own platforms to spotlight these employment and help Americans conclude Labor Day on a high note – with a new job to celebrate.”

However, we as a unified brand are well aware that we need help. That’s why we’re asking companies all throughout the country to help us take back Labor Day for the American workforce. And right now, that includes doing everything we can to get as many Americans back to work as quickly as possible.
